What To Do When You Can't Hear God - and Really Want To!

I'll start off with complete honesty: It's one of the most frustrating things in the world, as a Christian, to want to hear God, but not exactly be able to. I can tell you that firsthand, because I've battled with this for more than a little while.

You ask yourself (and sometimes, others) so many questions: Is God speaking and I'm just not listening? Does God speak to everybody? Does God really want to speak to me?

Let me clear something up really quickly: Yes, He absolutely does. The truth is, a lot of the time, it's just not in the grand, Heaven-opening-up-and-voice-booming-from-Above kind of way we're often expecting. Many times, God's voice is subtle and as a result, very easy to miss.

For a while, I've battled with feeling like God absolutely left me to fend for myself, despite promising to guide me and show me the way to go. I've felt abandoned; like there was something wrong with me because I didn't hear God clearly; like I was somehow one of the Unchosen Ones; like I had failed. And chances are that at one point or another, you've felt like that too.

If you're still at that point, let me again reassure you that you are special to God, and really, He takes no pleasure in withholding Himself from you. Secondly (thirdly, fourthly and fifthly, actually):

1) Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit for many reasons - so He could teach us, counsel us and direct us, amongst many other things. But the Holy Spirit knows where He's wanted and where He isn't. The more responsive you are to the things - no matter how tiny or great - Holy Spirit says, the more He will speak. It's a process, but you need to obey first.

2) God is the Word. So, if you want to know what He thinks or says about something, that's a great place to start. Most of us want a more intimate, one-on-one interaction (which is awesome), but start with knowing His Word, and He says if you "come near to Him, He will come near to you." (James 4:8) [God doesn't break His promises, btw.]

3) Watch out for God in the ordinary. We tend to expect a little bit more drama and grandiose-ness, but a lot of the time, you'll all of a sudden get a great idea 'from nowhere', or a solution to a nagging problem will come to you, or you'll suddenly remember someone you haven't spoken to in months - it's usually God in the moments. The more you trust that voice, and follow it, the clearer - and more frequent - it will become.

And don't forget to pray - a lot. Keep asking God to speak to you more, help you to recognise His voice when He does, and keep believing that He'll reveal more of Himself to you. He definitely wants to.

Let's Talk About Time: Where is Yours Going?

I've come to a stage in my life where one of the top 3 things I am most passionate about is how I'm spending my time. Why? It's one of the greatest gift God has given us - and a lot of the time, truth be told, we squander it. How you spend your time is a reflection of what you really care about. When you find that hours on hours are lost on online shopping, scrolling through Instagram, watching your favourite series, complaining about everything that's wrong in your life, it shows that's where you're truly most invested. It's where your heart and your mind are. Aside from chasing our passions and 'living our best life', how often do we remember that we are called to much more? That our lives are not just for chasing pleasures and being comfy? That we were created neither to just pay the bills or make loads of money? What are you doing with your time? It's a question I now ask myself everyday. It's so important to me not to go thro...

Why We All Need To Stop Feeling Bad About Our Bad Habits

Growing as a Christian and getting rid of bad habits is hard. Growing up, I always struggled with a bad temper and angry outbursts. I was simultaneously a great lover (of people) and a great fighter (my secondary school friends can testify so well to this!). But around 19 years old, with determination in my heart and God’s ever-present help, I was able to contain my emotions relatively well and hardly lost my temper any longer.  All that time, I didn’t realise how much God had worked on my heart, until about a year ago, when I tweeted about my anger issues as a teen and a former colleague replied, “Really? I can’t even imagine you being angry, Kunmi.” I literally LOL-ed. Girrrl, if only you knew! But recently, I’ve had to face my demons again. There’s something about being in such an emotionally-invested situation like marriage that can sometimes bring out things that have long been buried in you, or things you never even knew were there. When I got married, I found that I ...

What Does it Really Mean to Have an 'Anointing'?

Isn't 'anointing' just one of those Christian words that tends to be used a lot but we generally don't really understand? I listened to a fantastic podcast by Joyce Meyer (Ministries) today, Don't Be Led By Your Head . Along with several amazing lessons I picked up from JM (who I looove ), she said something I believe everyone should know: an anointing is simply God's power and enablement in your life to do something. We all heard this word so much from our pastors, preachers and reverends growing up and it just seemed so fancy, no?! You think of 'the anointing' as this precious, fragile thing that only 'God's special people' (like those mentioned above) have access to... something so far from your reach. But do you know every Christian has the anointing of God in different ways and different things? Let me just clear something up: this doesn't have to be singing in church or being a home fellowship leader . You could have an anoint...
