“I’m not mad at you”: Lessons in Love and Forgiveness

It’s one thing for God to teach you something using His word; it’s another for Him to use a real-life experience. And boy, does He love throwing a good experience your way every now and then! In the last few months, I’ve truly had to learn the meaning of forgiveness and acceptance.

I came face-to-face with a situation that I absolutely did not expect, and my faith was pushed to a new limit. One thing I would like to highlight at this point is: Don’t worry about the trials you are going to face in future. Instead, ask God for the grace and strength to deal with them well when they do rear their ugly heads. You can get past even the most difficult things and times if you just lean into God.

“As the body without spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” (James 2: 26)

Perhaps the biggest lesson I learnt is that we all sometimes need unpleasant experiences to bring out what is really inside of us. It’s easy to believe that you can extend mercy to someone in any situation when you haven’t ever really been tested in that area. It’s not difficult to say that you love a friend, partner or relative, until they hurt you really bad.

The other crucial lesson I learnt is the fact that although someone I hold dear hurt me, I am in no position to hold it against them. Why? You might argue that I have every right to. But one thing that I strongly believe, and that God has largely placed emphasis on in my walk with Him, is this: As a receiver of grace, I must also be a minister of grace. As someone who has the mercy of God in bucket loads, I must similarly dish out that mercy to others. After all, I am to bear the very stamp of God’s nature – not in some, but all areas.

And so should you.

Let's Talk About Time: Where is Yours Going?

I've come to a stage in my life where one of the top 3 things I am most passionate about is how I'm spending my time. Why? It's one of the greatest gift God has given us - and a lot of the time, truth be told, we squander it. How you spend your time is a reflection of what you really care about. When you find that hours on hours are lost on online shopping, scrolling through Instagram, watching your favourite series, complaining about everything that's wrong in your life, it shows that's where you're truly most invested. It's where your heart and your mind are. Aside from chasing our passions and 'living our best life', how often do we remember that we are called to much more? That our lives are not just for chasing pleasures and being comfy? That we were created neither to just pay the bills or make loads of money? What are you doing with your time? It's a question I now ask myself everyday. It's so important to me not to go thro...

Why We All Need To Stop Feeling Bad About Our Bad Habits

Growing as a Christian and getting rid of bad habits is hard. Growing up, I always struggled with a bad temper and angry outbursts. I was simultaneously a great lover (of people) and a great fighter (my secondary school friends can testify so well to this!). But around 19 years old, with determination in my heart and God’s ever-present help, I was able to contain my emotions relatively well and hardly lost my temper any longer.  All that time, I didn’t realise how much God had worked on my heart, until about a year ago, when I tweeted about my anger issues as a teen and a former colleague replied, “Really? I can’t even imagine you being angry, Kunmi.” I literally LOL-ed. Girrrl, if only you knew! But recently, I’ve had to face my demons again. There’s something about being in such an emotionally-invested situation like marriage that can sometimes bring out things that have long been buried in you, or things you never even knew were there. When I got married, I found that I ...

What Does it Really Mean to Have an 'Anointing'?

Isn't 'anointing' just one of those Christian words that tends to be used a lot but we generally don't really understand? I listened to a fantastic podcast by Joyce Meyer (Ministries) today, Don't Be Led By Your Head . Along with several amazing lessons I picked up from JM (who I looove ), she said something I believe everyone should know: an anointing is simply God's power and enablement in your life to do something. We all heard this word so much from our pastors, preachers and reverends growing up and it just seemed so fancy, no?! You think of 'the anointing' as this precious, fragile thing that only 'God's special people' (like those mentioned above) have access to... something so far from your reach. But do you know every Christian has the anointing of God in different ways and different things? Let me just clear something up: this doesn't have to be singing in church or being a home fellowship leader . You could have an anoint...
